Marlies Loescher grew up interested in observing nature particularly in the forests and fields of Lower Austria. Being given her first camera when she was eleven ignited a passion for photographing nature and animals and thriving for conservation and preserving the wonders of nature.
Thanks to her great-grandmother who let her roam fields and gardens to observe animals and nature from a very small age she developed a keen love of photographic artistry, science, observing animals and environmental issues.
During her a career as a researcher and scientist she noticed how she always saw microscopic pictures and other fascinating laboratory results through the eye of a lens and wanting to make people aware of the miracles going on in every body and living being that could not be seen with the naked eye.
To add professionalism to her natural talent in capturing most natural moments of people’s, animals’ and nature’s expressions she took courses and worked with a photographer alongside her fulltime science job.
She began working on a series of portrait sessions of people’s pets, hoping to portray those beautiful souls in a way that displayed their incredible loyalty and diversity, and to inspire a deeper concern for unique body language and that of their wild instincts.
She also focused on portraying rescue animals of animal sanctuaries around Perth while volunteering. Marlies has been in Cambodia and Laos at Free The Bears sanctuaries several times doing volunteer work and managed to capture the beauty of the rescued bears in her breaks, which was one of the best experiences of her life and she hopes for more volunteer trips to come.
“Marlies demonstrated both professionalism and a relaxed manner whilst in our home enticing guinea pigs, cats and children to pose for companion animal portraits. The results are excellent and I will highly recommend Marlies to anyone considering this genre of portraiture. Thank you Marlies for the lovely photos and your warm and gentle approach with all involved. Ann.”
